A George III oak longcase clock, circa 1790
The hood with reeded and diamond-carved stepped top, inset columns (lacking mounts), with breakarch trunk door and on plain plinth raised on bracket feet, the 12in. wide cut-away brass dial with shell and foliate spandrels to Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre with subsidiary ring and date aperture, black painted hands (later minute), with plaque in the arch signed D. Hastings/Alnwick, the eight day four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 93in. (236cm.) high
