A George II oak longcase clock, circa 1730
The hood with giltwood ball and spire finials to cushion-moulded top, blind fret frieze and inset columns, with rectangular trunk door and on rebuilt plinth, the 12in. square brass dial with engraved borders, mask and foliate spandrels to Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers, signed Thomas Jenkinson/SANDWICH, with matted centre and ringed winding holes, conforming circular date aperture, with engraved birds and basket, subsidiary seconds ring, hands now black painted, the eight day five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell; with built up cheekboards, case possibly associated to dial and movement -- 88in. (224cm.) high
