A Victorian mahogany longcase regulator, mid 19th century
The arched case with panelled plinth and glazed side panels, hinged door to top, on block feet, with silvered sight ring to 12in. diameter silvered dial of regulator format and signed Bateman 82 St John St.t, foliate moulding below, the high quality eight day movement with four large pillars, pinned to the front and screwed to the rear, the plates with spot-finished ends, wheels with six crossings, the Vulliamy type dead beat escapement with jewelled pallets, Harrison's maintaining power; the calibrated steel rod pendulum with copper jar enclosing lead weight and with silvered and engraved caps, swinging against a bone beat scale, with elaborate brass pulley and brass weight -- 75¼in. (192cm.) high
