A native of Pennsylvania, Albert Rosenthal was best known as a portraitist. Throughout the teens and twenties, Rosenthal frequently exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, The National Academy of Design in New York and the Art Institute of Chicago. Fancily dressed women in well-appointed interiors, such as The Millinery of 1914, The Blue Hat of 1922, Black Fur Coat of 1927 and the present work, My Studio, were among the artist's favorite subjects to exhibit.
