Linke acquired a model of the present guéridon at the vente Millet held in 1905. Two years later, he produced his first copy, listed as no. 1390, and complete with a porcelain vase imitating porphyry. The model proved popular and Payne records Linke making a total of at least eight further tables, each with a blue porcelain vase supplied by Samson. The present table is of a lower form than the typical model, which Payne notes is not mentioned in Linke's registre (see Payne, op. cit., p, 208, pl. 228).

Please see lot 128 for a further note on François Linke.
