Lot Essay

The decoration of this tunic takes its inspiration from Persian ornament. See exhibition catalogue Mariano Fortuny, Der Magier des Textilen Design, Osterreichischen Museum Für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna, 1985, cat. no. 25 and 46 for variations of this design on velvet and silk gauze. See also Mariano Fortuny: His Life and Work, Guillermo de Osma, 1985, page 104
