Lot Essay

Reynolds painted the portrait of Master Hare for one of his aunts, Anna Maria Lady Jones in 1788. The sitter was Francis George Hare, the nephew or adopted son of Lady Jones. It was bought by Baron Alphonse de Rothschild in 1872 and bequeathed to the Musee du Louvre, Paris in 1906.
