A Deruta-style charger and a Deruta-style plaque
THE FIRST 19TH CENTURY; THE SECOND PROBABLY 18TH/19TH CENTURIES
The first painted with the shoulder-length profile of a Roman soldier wearing a plumed helmet below a stylised serpent-fish, with an ornate sword and shield before him, his shoulders are draped in yellow fabric, reserved on a dark-blue ground, the broad border painted with panels of blue scrolling flowers, yellow and blue stripes and yellow and blue scale-patterns; the plaque of tapering form painted with a manganese outline with two kneeling haloed figures before St John the Baptist who points upwards and faces the haloed Christ child, each corner painted with green, yellow and blue festoons, and reserved on a ground painted with manganese scrolls highlighted within yellow, blue and green glazes, within a moulded frame applied with knops to each corner
