For a similar example, see Carl Albiker, Die Meissner Porzellantiere (Berlin, 1959), p. 13, no. 76 and pl. no. 76. In an English translation of the Comte de Buffon's Natural History of Birds, Fish, Insects and Reptiles (London, 1798), p. 172, the bustard is described as being 'the largest land-bird that we are familiar with in Europe. They were formerly very numerous in England; but the increased cultivation of the country, the extreme delicacy of their flesh, has greatly thinned the species'.
