AN UNUSUAL CARVED RED LACQUER DOUBLE-VASE-FORM STACKING BOX, COVERS AND STAND
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The box comprised of three compartments, the uppermost formed by the necks and shoulders of the conjoined vases, the middle compartment by the mid-sections of the vases and the lowermost by the lower bodies and feet of the vases, all decorated with bands of archaistic decoration, the two domed covers carved with petal lappets below gilt-metal bud finials, the stand of conforming outline raised on six ruyi feet joined by an apron carved with diaper pattern below a band of shou characters and incised on top with formalized foliate motifs, with black lacquer interiors
