Lot Essay
John Ayers in The Baur Collection - Chinese Ceramics, vol. 3, Geneva, 1972, in a discussion of nos. A476-477, refers to the 'Yung Cheng List' of porcelains supplied to the Court, which included both plain and incised purple-brown-glazed wares. A Yongzheng-marked dish of this pattern and size in the Percival David Foundation is illustrated in Oriental Ceramics, The World's Great Collections, vol. 6, Tokyo, 1982, vol. 6, no. 254 and a slightly larger example is illustrated by R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. 2, London, 1994, vol. 2, p. 229, no. 891.
