The twenty-three fan and square ink paintings on these screens include a variety of typical Chinese subjects including a heron and willow tree, pigeon on pine branch, pair of cranes, landscapes and Daoist sages. Here Yusho places them uniquely on a Yamato-e style painting of a long corridor linking two unseen buildings of a large mansion. Pine trees grow on both sides of the corridor that is partially screened from our view by bamboo blinds.
