A Set of Ten Enamelled Stoneware Dishes
Kenzan Style, Edo period (18th century), bearing signature on bases Kenzan [Ogata Kenzan (1663-1743)]
Each rectangular with flat base and straight, upright walls, decorated in the interior in colored enamels and iron-glaze with flowers and on the sides in blue enamel with a diaper band, also applied with a clear glaze, with signature on underside in iron-oxide Kenzan
4¼ x 7 5/8in. (10.7 x 19.4cm.)
In wood box certified on the underside of the lid by the ceramic scholar Mitsuoka Tadanori (1907-1994): Shodai Kenzan kiku e nagakakuzara jukkyaku (Set of ten long-rectangular chrysanthemum dishes by Kenzan I), Mitsutada shiki (certified by Mitsutada) and sealed Mitsu
Inner wood box inscribed on the lid and the side Kenzan kakunaga te yakimono sara (Hand-painted long-rectangular ceramic dishes by Kenzan) and signed illegibly; dated on the bottom of the box Meiwa hachinen onreki jugatsu (1771, tenth month) (10)
