A Dagger (Tanto) Attributed to Mihara of Bingo in Aikuchi Mounts (Koshirae)
Muromachi period (late 15th century)
The dagger of moroha-zukuri configuration; forging pattern running itame with a suguha tempered edge with a small, rounded tip; bohi carved on the omote and a Buddhist ken on the ura; tang unshorted with horizontal file marks and three mekugi-ana
Aikuchi koshirae comprising a black-lacquer scabbard with wide ribs at the bottom and narrow ribs near the koiguchi and fitted with metal kojiri, kurigata and koiguchi decorated with geometric designs in damascene and gilt; iron kozuka and wari-kogai with applied gilt-metal dragons amid clouds; the tsuka fitted with a kashira matching the scabbard hardware and shakudo, copper and gilt menuki formed as a sambaso dancer's hat and a child with a hobby horse
