A Dagger (Ken) in Aikuchi Mounts (Koshirae)
Edo period (19th century), signed Sanjo ju Yoshiuji kore (o) saku
Ken configuration with bonji horimono; ko-itame and masame forging pattern with a suguha hotsure tempered edge; tang unshortened with horizontal file marks and two mekugi-ana
Aikuchi koshirae comprising a brown-lacquer scabbard decorated with wave patterns and mounted with a gilt and shakudo kojiri carved with confronted dragons on waves, the lower body of the scabbard mounted with a ring decorated with a Chinese lion patinated in shakudo and the top of the scabbard with a cord ring carved as the head of a lion, finished in shibuichi, the koiguchi fitted with a metal collar formed as a loop of cord; the metal handle inset with gilt-metal panels carved with scrolling vines and fitted with fuchi applied with a gilt Chinese lion on a nanako ground, signed Yasutaka and a kashira formed as the head of an elephant, signed Yasuchika, the middle of the hilt banded by a ring applied with a pair of gilt demon-head menuki
