This unusual example of a 'hundred eye candle screen' is directly parallel to that discussed by J. Caspall in Fire & Light in the Home pre-1820, Woodbridge, p.253. Considered to be a ' contributor to dmestic safety', this model was introduced in the first quarter of the 19th Century so that a candle could be safely left to burn throughout the night.
