Of columnar form, the nozzle with sprung mechanism for raising the candle as it burns, the pierced capital above a spreading ring-turned socle and square weighted plinth, with traces of original gilt-lacquer

Lot Essay

A wax and tallow chandler by training, Palmer's first patent for a 'metallic wick candle' was registered in 1830. This was followed in 1832 with a Patent which dealt with improved methods of candle manufacture.
