An automaton portable barrel piano,
the 22-string action playing eight tunes including Yankee Doodle, with two bells and five (of seven) carved and automated polychrome figures in mirrored compartment, in mahogany case of typical style -- 16¾in. (93cm.) high, (four figures incomplete)

Lot Essay

Four of the five figures (including a dancer, musician and an African woman and baby) - driven from a worm on the crankshaft - revolve and move their limbs in time to the bells, when the latter are engaged via a knob on the side. The fifth figure with articulated arms plays a glockenpiel.
