Lot Essay

A pair of English silver wine coolers of similar form and decoration by Thomas Farrer, dated 1727, are illustrated in M.Claydon, Christie's Pictorial History of English and American Silver, p.133, fig.5. A brass example of virtually identical form is in an American private collection.
