The arched foliate cresting above a pierced opposing C-scroll frieze flanked by seated squirrels, the later rectangular plate within a scrolled and vine-leaf carved frame above a mask centered pierced apron

Lot Essay

A virtually identical mirror, almost certainly from the same workshop was sold, The Property of a Lady, Christie's, New York, 22 April 1995, lot 365 ($34,500). The mirror was possibly one of a pair from the Estate of Lillian S. Whitmarsh, sold Parke-Bernet Galleries, 7-8 April 1961, lots 353-354 and subsequently, James Donahue, sold Parke-Bernet, 2-4 November 1967, lot 582. Another mirror of similar design is illustrated in The Knight of Glin, Irish Furniture, 1978, fig.35.
