HELENA, 1889-1890 - An album of 76 photographs of St. Helena by B.Wood, B.Grant and others, printed by A.L.Innes, St. Helena Studio, Jamestown, mounted on the recto and verso of 37 grey card leaves, the subjects annotated in pencil by the Governor, C.B.Mitchell ('Clerk of the Peace reading my Commission in front of the Court House, Jamestown, Nov.5 1889') on the card leaves, oblong 4° (240 x 280mm.), contemporary half roan gilt (extremities rubbed and chipped causing small losses, upper joints split)
An interesting album including views of St Helena, visiting shipping, contemporary events including the arrival of the Zulu Chief Dinizulu, the son of Cetewayo, and his entourage, exiled to the island from 1890 to 1897 for resisting the annexation of Zululand.
