A sketch taken on the voyage of HMS Hyacinth (Captain Francis Price Blackwood) which took Martens from Falmouth on 19 May 1833 to Rio de Janerio, Brazil, on the first leg of a cruise to the East Indies station. Martens later transferred to the Beagle at Montevideo when he was asked by Fitzroy to replace the ailing Augustus Earle.
