FIRST EDITION IN VERY FINE ORIGINAL CONDITION. Oates, a hydrographer of the first order, is chiefly known for his highly accurate surveys, many of which formed the basis of the charts that were used well into the twentieth century, in addition Mendelssohn notes that this work 'contains a large amount of varied information respecting many portions of Africa in the first quarter of the nineteenth century.'
