8° (229 x 150 mm). Folding map printed on light blue paper, publisher's advertisements mounted on paste-downs. A VERY RARE FIRST EDITION, A PUBLISHERS PRESENTATION COPY, signed for the author. Finding that no detailed study of region existed, the young Burton produced one and dedicated it to the Directors of the East India Company. Politically sensitive matter was suppressed, however, but Burton's own annotated copy of the work showed that he was preparing a second, unexpurgated edition. Only one copy of this rare work has appeared at auction in the last 25 years. Penzer p. 40. Casada 60.
