A FINE COPY OF THE RARE FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE OF BURTON'S GREATEST POEM, with the small broadside Prospectus offering this 'exquisite Oriental poem (authorship concealed),' the text taken from Lady Burton's Preface to the Second Edition 1894. The 'F.B.' of the title-page was, in fact, Burton using his favoured pseudonym of Frank Baker which he had also used on 'Stone Talk,' and he was not the translator but the author. With five of the printer's first galley proofs with a few proof reader's corrections, with the printer's label at upper margin: Wyman & Sons, Gt. Queen St., dated '20.10.80' and '23.' Penzer p. 97-103. Casada 84. Spink 63.
