Contemporary red half morocco gilt, gilt edges (extremities and joints scuffed, some light old soiling).
FIRST EDITION of this light-hearted look at military and tribal life in south Africa: according to the author, this work does not 'profess to instruct so much as to amuse the reader; and more especially to afford my military friends, who may have served at the Cape, some little reminiscence of their sojourn in that country' (Preface).
