The complete set of Horsbrugh's ornithological survey of South Africa, with expertly drawn plates by Sergeant C. G. Davies, a Cape Mounted Rifleman, enabling 'the sportsman readily to identify any Game-Bird he may shoot' (preface). Horsbrugh's work is indebted to Sclater's Fauna of South Africa for facts on distribution and eggs and to the Journal of the South African Ornithologists' Union.
