2 parts in one volume. 2° (347 x 215mm). Engraved portrait frontispiece, 16 engraved plates, one folding and two in monochrome, by E. Kirkall, G. Vdr Gucht, Thornton and others after Stukeley. (Frontispiece lightly browned.) 20th-century calf gilt bound to style.

Stukeley's work includes an essay on the anatomy of the elephant, based on two dissections which took place at Fort St George in 1715 and in London in 1720. A renowned antiquarian, anatomist and physician, Stukeley was a founding member of the Society of Antiquaries and a close friend of Sir Isaac Newton. Blake, National Library of Medicine, p.437
