Lithographic additional title with colour-printed vignette and lettering printed in 'gold', 27 lithographic plates, one folding. (Text browned.) Original red cloth, covers blocked in blind, the upper cover with vignette in gilt, spine lettered in gilt, g.e. (small tears and splits to spine, extremities rubbed). FIRST EDITION. DAS NEVES, Diocleciano Fernandes. Itinerario de uma viagem à Caça do Elephantes. Lisbon: Thomas Quintino Antunes, 1878. Small 8° (200 x 132mm). Largely unopened. (Some light spotting.) Original green paper wrappers (small tears to backstrips). RARE FIRST EDITION of a description of an elephant hunting trip to the Transvaal in 1860, and including a description of the death of the Zulu king Dingan. An English translation was published in 1879. Cf. Mendelssohn I,p.416 (the translation only); together with 21 other works, part works or pamphlets on the elephant and its antecedents. (24)
