'These notes are abstracted, with several interpolated passages to make them fit the present occasion, from two sources: one a lecture on James Joyce and the Problem of Reality, first delivered by Mr. Ross in 1930; and the other, a projected work on James Joyce, The Musician, begun with Mr. C.S. Hendry in 1932, but set aside to await the completion of Work in Progress' (p.3). (2)
