4° (310 x 230mm). Printed on recto only of a single, unopened folded sheet. Woodcut press device by and after Edward Wadsworth on title gathering, woodcut initial. (A little marked, creased causing light superficial wear.) Later cloth portfolio.
FIRST EDITION, SECOND STATE, ONE OF 40 COPIES ON JAPANESE VELLUM. INSCRIBED 'PROOF' AND CORRECTED BY POUND. According to a note in Pound's hand on a proof sent to The Dial, the forty copies of The Fourth Canto were 'privately printed not published for author's convenience' by Rodker's Ovid Press and were to be distributed gratis; however, after an unknown number had been printed, Pound requested that corrections, present here, be made. Pound inscribed the title of this copy 'proof , not in series , E.P.' and added the final letters 'ss' to the badly-printed word 'goddess' on p.3, line 17. RARE; no copy is recorded at auction by ABPC since 1975. Gallup Pound (1983) A16b.
