MEMORIES OF THIRTY YEARS BEFORE, AND REFERENCES TO BASIL BUNTING. Pound is sorry to hear of the illness of a friend, ('All wrong, she oughtn't to be'), and regrets an estrangement with her. He has 'just got back to archives, passé trente ans' with memories of France, and the Touring Club; Nancy should write to him. A postscript comments on the revival in the fortunes of Basil Bunting ('the eminent Bunting'): 'some editor howling for his poetry last week, and it aint the only time. he and cummings the TWO lights of the '20s, and the omission from memorial shows no credit to ANYone, but not my fault'. The postcard forwards Bunting's ('the Bunter's') address, and comments 'glad Otto decided to stick to damaged planet despite atimic threats'.

Pound always followed the reputation of his protegé Bunting with particular anxiety: one of the last Cantos complains of 'Bunting and Upward neglected'. (2)
