2o (350 x 216 mm). Contemporary speckled calf, spine in six compartments, with five raised bands, morocco lettering-piece in one, the remaining gilt (joints a bit weak, few repairs at ends of spine).
FIRST EDITION. The present work transcribes original letters and documents from the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. The papers themselves were left by Burghley at Hatfield House, in the library of the Earl of Salisbury. A second volume was published in 1759.
