4o (181 x135 mm). (Lacking final blank, pale stain on title, some light soiling.) Late 19th-century blue half morocco, marbled boards, gilt-lettered on spine, by Riviere (some slight wear at corners). Provenance: William Holgate (bookplate); C. Bohm Slingluff (pencil signature dated 1870 on flyleaf); James W. Ellsworth (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION. By 1626, Davenant was at court writing plays, his first effort being the 1629 unacted Albovine, King of the Lombards. After Ben Jonson's death, Davenant succeeded to the quasi-official position of "poet laureate" at court. Greg 428; STC 6303.
