4o (168 x 110 mm). (Title, some headlines, signature marks and catchwords cropped, lacking final blank, some browning and soiling.) Early 19th-century vellum, sides panelled in dark brown ink, stamped floral ornament at each corner (lightly soiled and worn).

Second edition, after the first edition of 1607. Middleton's first successes as a playwright were with the half-dozen sophisticated comedies of manners for the children's companies from 1602 to 1608. The Phoenix was among these plays. Greg 243b; STC 17893.
