(Lacking final blank, B4 with headlines cropped and marginal tear crossing text, some mostly pale spotting and occasional marginal dustsoiling.) 19th-century calf, Earl of Bridgewater crest on sides (front cover detached, a bit rubbed). Provenance: Bridgewater Library (binding and bookplate); Henry E. Huntington; John L. Clawson (bookplate; sold Anderson Galleries, 21 May 1926, lot 762); Samuel Wyllis Bandler (John Fleming in Four Oaks Library, 1967, p. 103).
FIRST EDITION. Both Evelyn and Pepys mention this romantic comedy in their diaries and it was licensed with praise for its freedom "from oaths, prophaneness and obsceneness." Greg 519; STC 22463.
