The binocular body-tube has rack and pinion adjustment to the two eyepieces, with micrometer fine focusing and a prism to the nosepiece. The body-tube moves via rack and pinion on a shaped limb in which there is a square aperture with screw clamp for stage accessories. The limb is mounted on a vertical circle graduated around the circumference 0-360°. The large circular stage is mounted via a smaller brass disc to the vertical circle; this bears a scale 60°-0-60° and via a straight cut gear and knurled turning knob to the reverse, the stage can be tilted left or right. The stage itself bears a 0-360° circumference scale and can be rotated by means of two ivory handles; the sprung slide holders can be moved back and forth with small brass handles, and additionally through both axes with knurled brass turning knobs. Mounted beneath the stage is a swinging arm diaphragm attachment. Also fixed to the vertical circle is the substage condensor mount; this likewise can be tilted left and right via a separate screw to the reverse, and a roller gear attachment with ivory handle moves both the condensor mount and the vertical circle up and down. The fully adjustable condensor mount is graduated 0-360° around the circumference and has a separate rack and pinion gear for vertical adjustment. Beneath this is mounted the large articulated plano-concave substage mirror. The instrument tilts on an axis between two slightly tapering turned brass columns, with ivory-handled clamp, from a rotating circular base with a 0-360° circumference scale and three splayed feet. There are no objectives or accessories in the case, but included with the lot are: two unassociated bull's-eye condensor lenses, the stand for a third, a SWIFT & SON lamp-holder with bull's-eye condensor (no lamp), and a WATSON & SONS microscope stage with prism eyepiece. The mahogany carrying case has some blue felt lining and three brass carrying handles.
