The binocular body-tube has rack and pinion adjustment to the eyepieces and a Wenham prism above the nosepiece. It is signed at the base of the tubes WENHAM'S BINOCULAR by Ross, London and mounted on a short bar limb. Mounted on the limb are a graduated micrometer fine adjustment screw and a locking wheel to prevent sideways movement. The bar is mounted on a rectangular section column which moves via rack and pinion within the main limb. The fully mechanical stage is graduated in degrees around the circumference. The mechanical substage condensor mount can be moved up and down via rack and pinion as well as rotated via a worm screw, with a short index to read off the graduated circumference. It is fitted with a Ross condensor with two discs with apertures of various sizes, signed Ross, London. Beneath this, on an articulated limb, is the plano-concave substage mirror. The limb tilts on an axis between two brass uprights, with clamping lever, raised from the large Y-shaped foot. The fitted accessory case contains: four and half pairs of eyepieces; Ross 1/8, 1/5, ¼, ½, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5in. objectives in signed and labelled canisters; an unmarked 1/16 objective in a labelled canister; an unmarked low-power objective; two R.& J. Beck objectives; another Ross ½ objective; a Ross' Achromatic Condensor in labelled canister; substage aperature disc attachment; a Wenham's reflex substage illuminator signed Ross, London; a Wenham's substage paraboloid; grey and blue substage filters; substage prism mount; several polarisers and analysers; camera lucida attachment; Lieberkuhn; three live boxes; centring tube; a reversible compressorium signed Ross, London; three stage attachments; a double nosepiece attachment; a Ramsden's screw micrometer attachment signed Ross, London; and stage-mounted bull's-eye; and forceps. The accessory case locks with a key. The carrying-case also contains a table bull's-eye condensor, and has two inlaid side handles and lock and key.
