The new Porsche 356B model was first shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 1959. The car featured an all-new bodyshell, which incorporated subtle changes over its predecessor. These changes included slightly different front wings that accommodated higher-set headlamps, a more raked nose panel and heavier bumpers. The front horn grilles now had two vertical slats and even the front boot handle was slightly revised, although it of course carried the family crest. Inside the car there were now split rear seats with folding backrests, a feature that Porsche continues to this day. The 'S' engine offered an extra 15bhp over the standard model and was capable of a top speed of just under 110 mph.
This example was supplied new to the US market and the service book states that the car was delivered on the 28th of December 1962. Prior to importation to the UK in 1997, this 356B had previously resided in Massachusetts. Both the interior and the engine bay appear in good condition and lightly used, presumably in keeping with the 32,000 miles registered on the odometer. In general the car presents well and boasts a luggage rack but the bodywork has been badly prepared prior to its respray and thus it could benefit from some enhancement. Though not driven, when the car was inspected it started promptly and sounded well, furthermore the vendor informs us that the car is a very good driver. Accompanying the car is a generous history file, V5 registration document, MOT certificate (valid until July 2004) and there are also the original handbooks and service book within the original pamplet (all in very good condition). Ideal either to use or improve this 356B certainly warrants close inspection.
