Louis Fleckenstein was active in Pictorialist circles from 1903 until his death in 1943. During his career, he helped found numerous photographic organizations, most notably the Salon Club of America and the Camera Pictorialists of Los Angeles, whose members included Margrethe Mather and Edward Weston. In 1934 Fleckenstein became a charter member of the Photographic Society of America and was appointed Long Beach's first Arts Commissioner. Fleckenstein's photographs, typically of dancers posed in outdoor settings, were frequently reproduced in contemporary photographic journals such as The American Annual of Photography, Camera Craft and American Photography. This is believed to be the only known exhibition print of this image.
