Lot Essay

Valentina Livitnoff was an instructor of modern dance in New York. Arbus refers to the 1967 exhibition 'New Documents' at The Museum of Modern Art which included her work alongside that of Garry Winogrand and Lee Friedlander. This was the only major museum exhibition mounted during her lifetime.
