Lot Essay

José Ortiz-Echagüe's selection of subject-matter and his technical virtuosity make him a natural successor to Spanish artists such as El Greco and Goya. A military engineer by profession, Ortiz-Echagüe's works were enhanced by his use of the Fresson process, which resulted in prints of great luminosity and tonal depth.
