A VILLANOVAN BRONZE SCABBARD WITH FRAGMENTARY SWORD
8TH CENTURY B.C.
The scabbard decorated with fine merging ribs on the front, tapered to composite finial of a broad ring and ridged bands, the edges chased with chevrons and surmounted by a large lentoid disc, the back with central opening, remains of interior wooden scabbard and corroded iron blade within, repaired, 18 in. (46 cm.) long; another bronze scabbard of similar type, 13¾ in. (35 cm.) long; and a Villanovan dagger with scabbard, each with fine engraved parallel grooves, 15¾ in. (40 cm.) long, both 8th Century B.C. (3)
