A PAIR OF ROMAN BRONZE HORSE EYE GUARDS
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY B.C./A.D.
Of rectangular shape, with foliate openwork decoration over the central ovoid dome; and a bronze horse muzzle, with openwork decoration, the upper part with two facing hoplites with raised circular shields, a kneeling figure, possibly a Triton, on the underside, traces of incised and chased detail, with ring attachment loop terminals at each side, circa 1st Century B.C./A.D. or earlier
7 3/8 in. (18.2 cm.) high max. and 9 1/8 in. (23.2 cm.) long respectively (3)
