Lot Essay

The arms are those of Rothschild, probably for Nathan Mayer Rothschild, 1st Baron Rothschild, PC, GCVO Lord Lieutenant and custos rotulorum of Buckinghamshire, Lieutenant for the City of London, Captain Buckinghamshire Yeomarny Cavalry, MP for Aylesbury 1865-85, honorary LLD Cambridge 1911. Born 8 Novemember 1840, married 1867 to Emma Louisa, daughter of Baron Mayer Carl von Rothschild, member of the German Parliament. He was created Baron Rothschild of Tring, county Hertford, 29 June 1885, sworn of the Privy Council in 1902 and created GCVO in the same year He died 31 March 1915.
