AN OSTROGOTHIC GLASS INLAID BRONZE BELT BUCKLE
LATE 5TH-6TH CENTURY A.D.
The rectangular catchplate decorated with clear and amber glass in cloisonné technique, in the form of a rosette with central raised rectangular faceted inlay and a border of square inlays, 3 7/8 in. (9.8 cm.) long; a Frankish gilt bronze buckle plate, triangular with large gilt bronze domed boss at each corner, remains of rivets beneath, traces of gilding in parallel grooves along each side, 7th Century A.D., 3 in. (7.6 cm.) long; and a West Ostrogothic inlaid bronze plaque with remains of green and amber glass inlays, traces of gilding, pierced in corners for attachment, 5th-7th Century A.D., 1 1/8 in. (2.9 cm.) long (3)
