AN ETRUSCAN NECK AMPHORA
6TH CENTURY B.C.
In black-figure technique but misfired to an orange colour, the neck with vertical lotus and palmette chain, rays around the foot, each side with panel containing scene
Side A: kneeling warrior with crested Corinthian helmet, greaves, shield and spear before a squared-block structure, an altar or fountain, with panther-headed spout from which runs a stream of water to the side, standing in profile on the structure and between vertical foliate branches is a small figure with naked male body, lion-paw feet and beaked animal head, holding aloft an object (possibly a dagger or sacred cos lettuce)
Side B: a small naked youth with long tresses holding foliate branch advances to the left before a pair of horses with a bearded rider and an over-sized armed male figure on foot with sword and spear, repaired
