A RARE QIANGJIN AND TIANQI-DECORATED POLYCHROME STORAGE BOX
JIAJING INCISED AND GILT SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1522-1566)

Of rectangular cross-section, fitted with a metal-hinged front panel incised and gilded with an ascending dragon and descending phoenix above a stylised shou character amidst clouds within bracket lobed cartouche, the side panels similarly decorated with exception of the back panel in black lacquer, the interior constructed with four registers, each divided into compartment of drawers in various sizes, supported on a short splayed base decorated with lappets, detailed with green, red and yellow lacquer against an orange ground, and highlighted with gilt, the base lacquered black bearing the six-character reign mark (restored)
