AN EXTREMELY RARE IRON-RED AND UNDERGLAZE-BLUE DECORATED 'DRAGON' DISH
KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)

Finely painted to the exterior in inky-blue tones with three striding five-clawed dragons in mutual pursuit with a fourth dragon to the interior medallion, all reserved on an iron-red ground of rolling and cresting waves and framed within double and triple band borders

Only two other Kangxi dishes of this pattern and very rare combination of colours are published, one was included in the exhibition Masterpieces of Chinese Art from the Art Institute of Chicago, Japan, 1989, no. 92; the other is illustrated in Chinese Porcelain, The S.C. Ko Tianminlou Collection, Part II, Hong Kong, 1987, pl. 94.
