Lot Essay

A closely related coral-tree in a cloisonné enamel jardiniere was sold in our London Rooms, 16 December 1996, lot 132. The present lot can also be compared to a several enamelled jardinieres bearing potted landscapes created from a variety of organic and inorganic material, included in the exhibition Tributes from Guangdong to the Qing Court, the Palace Museum, Beijing, and the Art Gallery, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1987, illustrated in the Catalogue, nos. 58-61. Cf. also a Canton enamel, ivory and hardstone model of a boat with a peach tree, sold in these Rooms, 30 April 1995, lot 600.
